From Nepal to Slatina, then to the south of Italy via Bucharest, from garment manufacturing to working in a saddlery, from building blocks to recruitment, DOMAIN OF FIGHT follows the story of a young Asian man in search of a better life in Europe.
The show takes the form of an urban fairy tale and imagines the story as an experience of becoming. We find ourselves in a fantastical reality where dragons and monkeys meet in the shadow of baobab trees and Stephen the Great. We launch a tragi-comic invitation to reflection and empathy, challenging the spectator to imagine how the world we have created as a theater of consciousness feels. On the borderline between documentary and fictional, THE DOMAIN OF FIGHT is a fable of the contemporary world in which tigers, buffalos and humans struggle to survive.
THE DOMAIN OF FIGHT is the third show in the Migration Trilogy – a personal project of director Catinca Drăgănescu. Continuing the series started with Rovegan (Replika Educational Theatre Center, 2016) and Bun de export (Point Art Hub, 2017), this third work approaches economic migration from the perspective of non-European migrants, focusing on Romania’s particular status as an exporting country and at the same time an importer of labor.
